today i learned – mon 11th sept 2017

todayโ€™s little fact is technically not a โ€˜today i learnedโ€™ ๐Ÿ˜…, itโ€™s more of a โ€˜today i rememberedโ€™ … even so, iโ€™m going to count it as valid โœ”๏ธ (itโ€™s my blog ainโ€™t it … so, you know ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿผ).

anyway, it came about after a family debate and i decided to learn more (in an effort to win at said debate and to learn something #winwin โœŒ๐Ÿป.

#tdil that plants donโ€™t produce oxygen at night … they take it in whilst producing carbon dioxide ๐ŸŒป #flipbackreverse Continue reading “today i learned – mon 11th sept 2017”

now, what i actually learned today was a couple of things: firstly, my massive petrolhead uncle used to be a cyclist who deliberately rode uphill 😳 #umwhat. secondly, lots of many things about North Korea 🙃.

despite this, today’s fact isn’t either of the above 👍🏻 mainly because the first one probably won’t be useful in many pub quizzes and the second might end up with me being blown up by artillery or something #notideal 🔫

#tdil that it’s a myth that your entire body is replaced every 7-10 years 🤔 Continue reading “today i learned – mon 14th aug 2017”

i’ve a feeling that this could be quite a short one 😳 i know i say that a lot, but on this occasion i mean it.

a ricky gervais podcast taught me this fact 🙈 regardless, even after a period of research, i’m still pretty fascinated by it!

#tdil that all humans on earth spent a whole 30 minutes as a single cell! 📱 (there isn’t an emoji of a single cell … so there’s a ‘cell’ phone 😏) Continue reading “today i learned – weds 9th aug 2017”

admit it, last time you yawned, you tried to get as many people to join in as possible ๐Ÿ˜ go on … we all do it … if you donโ€™t, then you should! itโ€™s funny ๐Ÿ˜‚

that pretty much sets the tone for today! weโ€™re going all out yawn central up in this beast ๐Ÿ˜Ž

#tdil the reasons why scientists think we yawn and why yawns are contagious ๐Ÿ˜ฒ <- thatโ€™s as close as weโ€™re getting to a yawn emoji ๐Ÿ˜‚. Continue reading “today i learned – tues 8th aug 2017”

have you ever just looked at someone fairly useless and just thought “how do you even manage to life?!” 😳

in the animal kingdom, i guess the equivalent entity to this would be the jellyfish … like, they have no bones, no heart and no brain … how are they even a thing?! 🤔 well:

#tdil how jellyfish are even alive 🐙 … i also learned that they aren’t even fish!? 🐠 (there isn’t a jellyfish emoji … so octopus will have to do 💁🏼) Continue reading “today i learned – weds 2nd aug 2017”

once upon a time, one of my fellow students raised their hand and asked our gcse science teacher – “sir, why do people grow old?” ๐Ÿ‘ด๐Ÿป (there wasn’t actually an emoji involved … they weren’t a thing back then).

the reply that sir gave was little more than “scientists don’t actually know … your cells always regenerate, so in theory you should live forever!” ๐Ÿค”. he wasn’t wrong back then … the clever dudes and dudettes in white lab coats had no idea. now, however, it turns out that they do ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿปโ€๐Ÿ”ฌ.

#tdil the reason why we grow old and why scientists can’t make us immortal ๐Ÿ‘ต๐Ÿป … prepare yourself people, this could be the most intellectual thing on the blog to date ๐Ÿค“.  Continue reading “today i learned – tues 13th june 2017”

today’s blog post comes to you through the pain and suffering that is caused by the wonderful ailment – hayfever ๐Ÿ™ƒ

you know, that horrible allergy that raises it’s ugly head after you’ve spent a fantastic day looking at supercars ๐Ÿ™Š๐ŸŽ … urgh, please go away fever of the hay.

#tdil just how those wonderful things called eye drops work ๐Ÿ‘€.  Continue reading “today i learned – sat 10th june 2017”

as with most of the random drivel that you’ll find on this blog … today’s little fact was discovered entirely by accident ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป this is despite the fact that i was a swimmer for the majority of my younger life.

to be honest, i’m really surprised that i’ve never learned this fact until today ๐Ÿค” was obviously not as committed to the swim life as i thought i was ๐Ÿ™ˆ

#tdil the reason why your fingers go all wrinkly when you go swimming for any length of time.  Continue reading “today i learned – fri 5th may 2017”

despite the fact that we’ve been on holiday for almost a week now, last night was the first time that we’ve actually encountered the infamous cockroach (this year at least).

as you’d expect, as charlie (that’s his name) came barreling towards our patio, there were screams & shouts and a rather large kerfuffle broke out. it was highly amusing watching multiple people jump onto chairs like the lady out of tom and jerry ๐Ÿ˜‚

after all of the excitement had ended and conversation began once more, there were no end of claims about how indestructible roachs are and how squashing them releases their eggs ๐Ÿค”.

i’ve subsequently investigated this fact ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป #tdil that you don’t release the young in some horror movie-esque way when you step on a cockroach (to be honest, you shouldn’t be stepping on them anyway … it’s mean ๐Ÿ˜ ). Continue reading “today i learned – tues 11th apr 2017”
