today i learned – tues 16th apr 2019

i can’t grow a beard … but if i could, i’d hope that this wouldn’t happen to me 😳

#tdil that, over 450 years ago, a dude was killed by his own facial hair πŸ˜… #awks

the dude in question was called hans steininger and he was the mayor of a small town named braunau am inn in the 16th century.

when he was alive, hans had a majestic beard that measured in at a nuts 4.5 feet … that 1.4 metres πŸ™ŒπŸ» sadly for him, it’d be his downfall (literally)

you see, in 1567 there was a rather dramatic fire in the town πŸ”₯ that caused mass panic (fires tend to do that πŸ˜…) amongst the citizens. being the good mayor that he was, hans was, of course, straight up on his feet trying to save the day!

it is said that, whilst hans usually kept his beard rolled up and stuffed in his pocket, all of the drama caused him to leave it dangling freely (ain’t nobody got time for beard maintenance when there be fire πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ)

it was this free flowing beard of wonder that eventually got stuck under hans’ feet, tripping him down some stairs and causing him to break his neck πŸ˜• #sadtimes

now, whilst hans may not be with us anymore 😒 (to be honest, he wouldn’t be anyway now πŸ™ƒ) his majestic beard still is 😏 … it currently has pride of place in the local district museum!

the people of braunau am inn are actually rather proud of their beard based folklore … so proud, in fact, that they have an impersonator with a mad long beard! 😎

right, i think that note is where we end today’s post πŸ‘πŸ» quite enjoyed this one 😏 i hope that you did too!

byeeeee 😜 #tdil

who doesn’t love a bit of beard based goodness?! feel like you still need some more fact based nutrition? just take a gander over ->here<-

(so, awkwardly, i couldn’t find a picture of hans that i could use πŸ™„ … but yeah, picture licenses are as follows – pic one ->here<-, pic two ->here<-, pic three ->here<- and the header ->here<-)
