today i learned – thurs 4th apr 2019

this one is legit possibly the most ridiculous thing you’ll ever learn 😂 oh well …

#tdil the state of kansas has been scientifically proven to be flatter than a pancake

i know i know … it’s a weird thing to even bother thinking about but it takes the whole saying “flatter than a pancake” to legit new levels.

like me, you’re probably wondering who on earth actually took their time to figure this fun time out!? 😅 well, it turns out that it came as the result of a study by three geographers in 2003 (you can read the original study ->here<-)

anyway, in short, they came to this conclusion after doing some legit actually scientific experiments.

firstly, they got themselves a pancake from ihop and cut out a sample slice so that they could make a topographic profile using a laser microscope 🤓

they then compared this to a 1:250,000 scale digital model of kansas’ elevation data (from east to west) to determine the flatness of each.

they then came up with a flatness value for kansas and the pancake 👍🏻 … with 1.000 being absolute perfect flatness (think of rick and morty) … the aim was basically to be the closest to 1.000.

the results were as follows – the pancake scored 0.957 and kansas scored ~0.9997 … otherwise referred to by the geographers by the technical term “damn flat” 😂

and there you have it … kansas is legit flatter than a pancake! 🙌🏻 i wonder if it’s flatter than all pancakes or whether it’s just certain ihop ones 🤔

byyyyye 🤦🏻‍♂️ #tdil
