i’m not sure that i explained the above very well … but what i’m on about are those guns that you point at things, hit a button and immediately get a temp reading (without any contact) … this is one –
ever wondered how they work? i have … here’s your answer 😏
basically, infrared thermometers take advantage of the fact that all objects that have mass emit energy in the form of heat.
when you focus your infrared thermometer on an object, it can figure out the surface temperature of an object by calculating the difference between the infrared rays coming off the object and the surrounding area 👍🏻
in more detail, the infrared thermometer works by using a lens to focus light from the object onto a special sensor called a ‘thermopile’.
the thermopile absorbs the infrared radiation and turns it into heat 🔥 the more infrared radiation, the hotter it gets! this heat is then turned into electricity ⚡️
the electricity produced is then sent to a detector and the heat of the object determined! basically – the hotter the object > the more infrared radiation detected > the more heat produced at the thermopile > the more electricity created > the higher the final temperature reading 😎
i kind of preferred it when i was convinced that it was witchcraft 😂 it was certainly simpler than the source that i just read to make this post! 🙈 … hopefully it all made sense? 🤔
