today i learned – wed 23rd jan 2019

everyone’s favourite cartoon mouse is making an appearance tonight πŸ™ŒπŸ»

#tdil that mickey mouse and tom & jerry weren’t always going to have those names! 🐭

who’d have thought it; those much loved characters all started with much different names to the ones that we know and love today!

let’s start with everyone’s favourite cat and mouse duo, tom & jerry 😏 back in their first ever episode – puss gets the boot – they were actually called ‘jasper and jinx’ 😱

unfortunately, however, the creators didn’t think the names clicked πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ so they spent some time throwing names at each other. eventually one of them (neither william hanna or joe barbera actually remember which) came up with the names tom and jerry πŸ‘πŸ»

now, the next one … this one genuinely surprised me a whole load! 😳 mickey mouse wasn’t originally going to be known as mickey!

that’s right, that mad famous mouse that fronts one of the best known companies in the world, almost had a totally different name πŸ™ˆ

so, the story goes that walt originally wanted to call his star ‘mortimer mouse’ 🐭. when he suggested it to his wife lillian, however, she said that she didn’t think that was a good fit.

instead, she suggested that he should go with mickey because it’s a bit friendlier and fitted with the whole thing a lot better πŸ™ŒπŸ»

now, you may think that mortimer mouse sounds very familiar … that’s because disney later added a mortimer mouse as a love rival for minnie πŸ™„

what do you think – do you prefer the original names or the ones that were used to today? πŸ€”

peace ✌🏻 #tdil
