today i learned – sat 15th dec 2018

continuing the animal fun times today πŸ‘πŸ» ever been asked if fish drink water? no? well, here’s your answer anyway πŸ˜‚

#tdil that, surprisingly, even fish need to drink water to survive! 🐠 … well, some fish do πŸ˜…

i don’t know why but i find the fact that fish need to drink really weird 😳 … i guess, of all the creatures out there, fish are the best placed for this conquest πŸ˜‚

anyway, back to the fact! fish that live in freshwater do not have to drink and fish that live in salt water do. the reason why there’s a difference between the two – salt 😬

now, if freshwater fish were to actively drink water … they’d have a bit of a merh due to their blood becoming diluted #notideal. this is because their blood has a higher concentration of salt than the surrounding water and, if they were to drink lots, they’d ruin the salt:water balance in their body πŸ‘ŽπŸ»

instead of drinking water, freshwater fish use osmosis to absorb water through their skin and gills … they then wee out the excess water πŸ™‚

saltwater fish, on the other hand, drink water lots! you see, the opposite of the above applies to saltwater fish … they’re at the constant threat of dehydration due to their blood having a lower concentration of salt than the surrounding water. for that reason, they have to drink lots and lots to prevent … well … death πŸ™ˆ #awks

thanks to mother nature and her amazing ability to design stuff perfectly, saltwater fish are able to take in lots of water and filter out all excess salt with their gills 😏 #skills

there you go! saltwater fish have a drinking problem and freshwater fish don’t πŸ˜‚ i guess they’ll never have to worry about getting thirsty at least? πŸ™ƒ

tatty bye πŸ€™πŸ» #tdil
