today i learned – tues 11th dec 2018

love coffee? ☕️ ever wondered how it works? 🤔 you’re in the right place 😉

#tdil how the caffeine in coffee makes you feel more awake 👍🏻

i was actually put onto this one by my lovely girlfriend, so she deserves the props for today’s fact 😊

anyways as you probably know – it’s the caffeine in coffee that gives you that mad awake feeling after a few too many cups of goodness 👍🏻

what you may not know, however, is that caffeine doesn’t have some magical way to produce more energy for you … instead, it actually just blocks the parts of your brain that make you feel tired 😏

you see, there’s a chemical in ya body called ‘adenosine’ … it’s this substance that makes you feel tired by docking with neuron receptors and causing a chemical reaction that makes everything work slower … you know that feeling when you’re getting sluggish? yeah, that 😴

what caffeine does is stop this process 😎 it does it by blocking the adenosine receptors … it has a similar molecular structure to adenosine, so it can get in the spot where adenosine would usually sit 😏

no space for adenosine means less sluggish inducing badness … which, of course, means more awakeness 😁

there’s a load more info on this, about things like caffeine withdrawal and that kind is thing, but i might do that as a second part as this is getting way long? 🤔 we’ll see!

laters 😘 #tdil

feels like ages since we had a coffee based fact … we used to have loads! 🙈 fancy learning something else? just take a look ->here<-
