so, the learning of japanese continues … i guess this is a little update? 🤷🏻♂️
#tdil some more japanese and the difference between the kanas
so yeah, i basically just wanted something really easy tonight 🙈 mainly because i’m lazy 😂 as such, i thought we’d have a little look into japanese kana 👍🏻
(i’m going to start by saying i’m not even slightly an expert … so feel free to correct me in the comments if you don’t agree 😂)
anyway, if you’re learning japanese you may have heard the word ‘kana’ a lot 👍🏻 if you haven’t, or you’re wondering what it means, kana is basically the name of the three ‘alphabets’ that they use in japanese 🇯🇵
inside that category, you’ll find hiragana, katakana and kanji – the three aforementioned ‘alphabets’ … i always put in apostrophes because it’s easier to describe them as that … they kinda are and kinda aren’t 🤷🏻♂️
the first two – hiragana and katakana – consist of all of the symbols that you can use to make up words 👍🏻 unlike english, the symbols aren’t letters … instead, they’re more like sounds – ‘ee’ ‘eh’ ‘ka’ ‘shi’ and etc
hiragana is made up of curly, softer, symbols and is used for japanese words. katakana uses different symbols for all of the same sounds as hiragana … these symbols are sharper and they’re used for none-japanese words … things like ‘america’ 👍🏻
in the beginning, the thought of learning these terrified me 🙈 … in practice, it wasn’t as bad as it seemed and it makes learning so much easier 😁 it also means that you can read stuff and it fills you with confidence! 🙌🏻
now, kanji is a whole different story 😭 each kanji symbol basically stands for a word eg- 母 is mother 👍🏻. also, where there are 50/60 characters in hiragana and katakana respectively, there are thousands of kanji characters 😭 the only way to learn them is to practice and memorise them 😕
i’m now done with both hiragana and katakana and have now moved on to learning a few phrases and scary kanji 🙄 honestly though, if you are learning, get on the first two kana asap … they aren’t all that scary, they make you feel good and they really help 😁
not had one this long in ages 😂 hopefully you like it 👍🏻
