as it’s december, i’m totally in xmas mode … i also love japan … so here’s an xmas japan fact! π―π΅
#tdil that japanese people like to celebrate christmas with a good ole kfc π
that’s right, every christmas, 3.6 million japanese families celebrate with a festive kfc π€·π»ββοΈ (not quite the christmas dinner that we have over here!)
to be honest, the thought of kfc at christmas isn’t really all that strange … the special part of this fact is that it only came around because of advertising π°
you see, shortly after takeshi okawara opened the first kfc in japan … he woke up in a cold sweat with a crazy idea – he should make a ‘party barrel’ for christmas ππ»
apparently, his new marketing plan was so successful that, in 1974, the company made the plan a national initiative ππ» … it wore the slogan “kurisumasu ni wa kentakkii” or “kentucky for christmas”.
takeshi’s plan was so successful that he very quickly climbed the kfc ranks … eventually filling the role of kfc japan ceo from 1984-2002 πͺπ»
these days, the incredible marketing plan can increase daily sales of kfc by almost ten times their usual! π±
how nuts is that?! the tradition that came solely from a marketing campaign is now a legit thing π³ marketing for the actual win π
goodbyeeee π #tdil
