actually ended up re-learning this post after looking into how the japanese always wait at pedestrian crossings 👍🏻
#tdil some of those pedestrian crossing buttons actually do nothing! 🙈
i can’t be the only one who has stood helplessly at a crossing, wondering if that little green man is ever going to arrive? 😒 even after pressing that little button, it can sometimes feel like forever before you can cross the road 🚘🚘
well, as it turns out, at certain junctions the button doesn’t even do anything! it’s literally a worldwide conspiracy – in new york they even call the buttons ‘placebo buttons’! 🙈
in the uk, thousands of junctions operate on a ‘split cycle offset optimisation technique’ that adjusts the length between each green dude due to sensors in the road.
other junctions in the uk are just 100% automatic … like, the button is there for nothing more than making people feel better about life 😂 – in manchester, 40% of the pedestrian crossing buttons are placebos!
so yeah, next time you’re at a crossing, think about it before you press the button – you could be wasting valuable energy!!
bonus fact!! in japan, people will always wait for the green light to appear before crossing the road … even if there are absolutely zero cars anywhere to be seen! 😳 nothing like us lot over here 😂
that’s me done on this one! 😅
much love 😍 #tdil
