today i learned – weds 21st nov 2018

this is actually something my dad asked about 😊 i’d forgotten the answer … so i thought i’d have another look into it πŸ‘πŸ»

#tdil the cause of that horrid pain that is called a β€˜stitch’ πŸ˜“

there’s no denying that stitches are grim πŸ™„ you try and go for your yearly run and then the dreaded stabby abby pain raises its ugly head 😭

ever wondered why it happens? basically, it all comes down to reduced blood flow to your diaphragm (the muscle that separates the stomach and abdomen from the heart and lungs … it’s also important in breathing πŸ‘πŸ» #quiteimportant).

you see, when you exercise, your blood moves away from the diaphragm and into your muscles … where it is needed the most at the time πŸ’ͺ🏻. the lack of blood goodness causes the diaphragm to cramp – let’s face it, no cramp is ever pleasant 😭

pretty simple really πŸ˜‚ the basic fact is just that it sucks πŸ™„

apparently you can prevent stitches from happening by drinking water before exercise, warming up correctly and not eating too close to your exercise chills πŸ™‚

what if you are suddenly struck by the dreaded stitch? apparently you can get rid of it by stopping exercise and touching your toes or by putting pressure on the area that hurts 😳 … i haven’t tested these yet … but why would bbc sport lie?
