today i learned – mon 1st oct 2018

with all the gdpr goodness that is still circulating at the mo … this one seems amusing and topical 🙈

#tdil that, in 1999, hackers found that you could log into any hotmail account with the password ‘eh’ 😳

what an absolutely massive merh 🙈 you could log into absolutely any hotmail account with that simple two character password 😅 no complex coding or any gubbins like that … just a simply two letter word 🙈

as you can imagine, it was known at the time as “the most widespread security incident in the history of the web” 💻 … just imagine the fine they’d get these days 💰💰💰

apparently, around the same time, other hackers found that you could also get into anyone’s account if you logged in as yourself and then created a url that included the second account’s username and a message number 🖥

honestly, i had no idea that hotmail was so insecure 🙈 how on earth was that allowed back then!? wonder if providers are still that awful? 🤔

byeee 🤷🏻‍♂️ #tdil

proper geeky fact today 🤓 can’t help being worried by stuff like this though! 🙈 fancy reading something else? just take a look ->here<-

(image time! the header is ->here<- and the other is ->here<-)
