today i learned – mon 10th sept 2018

can’t help but feel this is a pretty petty one … but i’d love to hear your thoughts! πŸ€”

#tdil playmobil once made an airport security set … but had to discontinue it due to complaints πŸ›«

now, these complaints came from parents and weren’t things like “it’s sharp” or “it’s aged wrong” … nope, they were things like “it’s too realistic” and “it teaches kids all about the high surveillance state of the world” πŸ™ˆ

basically, a set that was created to help teach kids about the real world and things that actually happen, did exactly that and parents hit the roof!

the set itself was sold with the description: β€œThe woman traveler stops by the security checkpoint. After placing her luggage on the screening machine, the airport employee checks her baggage. The traveler hands her spare change and watch to the security guard and proceeds through the metal detector. With no time to spare, she picks up her luggage and hurries to board her flight!”

and that’s exactly what you got πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ personally, i don’t see the problem? security is a thing that happens when you go to an airport. you can’t go on holiday (via commercial plane) without it πŸ€¦πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

nevertheless, the set gained lots of bad reviews (the most of any playmobil set) and was eventually discontinued. playmobil say it was due to it being a limited run set … but there’s scepticism about that reason πŸ˜…

what do you guys think? i mean, it’s possible that i’ve just totally missed the point! would you guys mind your kids learning all about airport security?? ✈️

until next time 😘
