today i learned – sun 2nd sept 2018

today’s fact made me both laugh and feel really bad 🙈 it’s a bit of an emotional rollercoaster 😅

#tdil that the testicles of bees explode when they climax 😳

how incredibly disturbing is that!? instead of bee relations being a fun time … they’re actually a really bad time 😢

whilst it sounds like an awful bit of design by mother nature, it actually makes a lot of evolutionary sense … you see, it stops other males being able to mate with their queen 👍🏻

it all starts when a bee is chosen to be a possible queen 🐝 the ‘contenders’ for the crown are chosen by the worker bees and fed special jelly #yummy. the contender that survives to adulthood is then selected as the new queen 🙌🏻

at this point, the new queen and a few drone bees go for a ‘mating flight’. sadly, when the drones mate with the queen and climax, their little bee balls explode 😢

even sadder than that, they also die 🙈 … but their genitals stay within the queen #grim. regardless of the grimness, it’s this bit that is evolution being clever: the lonesome genitals act as a genital plug that prevents other drones from mating with that queen 😏

and there you go, some interesting bedtime reading about bee private parts 😂

sleep well! 🐝 #tdil

gotta love a weird animal fact! this one actually came from my lovely girlfriend 😁 fancy reading some more fun stuff? take a gander ->here<-
