today i learned – mon 13th aug 2018

i’m super hungry today … so here’s a super interesting food fact for ya 😏

#tdil pringles once went to court to try and prove that they aren’t actually “potato chips” 🤔 (there’s no crisps emoji?! 🙄)

now, i’ve always thought of pringles as a type of crisp (or potato chip) … mainly because they are … but also because i’ve no idea what other category they could sit in?! 😳

well, pringles’ parent company at the time (2008), procter and gamble, went to court to argue that they’re actually a ‘savoury snack’ … as they don’t contain enough potato to be a potato chip (just 42% is actually potato dust … which is a worry 😂).

you may be wondering why they bothered? as usual, it’s all down to $$ – potato chips makers have to pay vat when entering the uk market 💰. savoury snacks, however, do not 👍🏻

in a long and arduous case in 2009, the courts eventually didn’t agree 😕 and procter and gamble were forced to pay £100million in past taxes and £20million a year going forwards 🙈 #ouch

and there you go, a super fast one today 🙈 hopefully you still found it interesting? i guess what you should take from this is that you shouldn’t start a crisp company 🤷🏻‍♂️

laters 💁🏻‍♂️ #tdil

literally such a useless fact 😂 want to read something actually useful? just take a look over ->here<-

(images were hard to come by 🙈 but! the header is ->here<- and the other image is ->here<-)
