it’s official, the robots are coming! 🤖 … but not quite in the scary way that you’re imagining 🙈
#tdil that someone is developing robotic traffic cones to save lives and cut traffic #doublewin
not quite the apocalypse causing robots that you were expecting? 🙈 i guess they could run into your knees? 🤷🏻♂️
anyway! they’re called ‘robo-cones’ and they’re a prototype made by a construction company called costain 👍🏻
the whole idea is simply that’ll they prevent roadwork teams from having to do the super dangerous job of sticking cones out on active roads 😳 … as you can imagine, that’s super dangerous 😅
apparently, the first angled bit (or taper) is the most dangerous bit ☠️ at the moment, that bit alone takes about 15 mins and puts roadwork crews at risk of being ran into by all of the cars that probably haven’t slowed down 🙄
these new remote controlled cones (which will one day be autonomous) would sit next to the carriageway until they were needed … they could then be navigated into place via remote control 😏 zero lives on the line 🙌🏻
using the cones, that 15 minute job would also take about one minute … which is a gigantic win for roadwork crews and drivers 😁
talking of drivers, what’s actually in it for us? why are we interested in this? 🤔 well, due to the current danger involved, the crews have to set out massive lengths of cones overnight 🙄
this means that traffic happens whilst they’re put down and the cones have to sit there even when roadwork teams aren’t actually working 😕 (we’ve all driven through those 😭)
thanks to the robo-cones, small bits of lanes could be quickly shut off only when needed 😁 until then, the cones would just sit patiently out of the way 🙌🏻
who knew that robots could be so helpful?! 😱
