volvo have always been known for their work in making our roads safer 🙌🏻

but did you know that they gave away their biggest invention ever to make us all safe?

#tdil volvo gave away their patent for the three-point seatbelt to save more lives 😁

how about that! turns out that, not only do volvo make cool cars, but they’re also just really good people! 😍 #thanksvolvo

the three-point seatbelt was actually invented by a volvo engineer named nils bohlin in 1959. at the time, the closest thing to a seatbelt was the two-point waste restraint (which was usually worse news than nothing in crashes!).

whilst the invention was owned and patented by volvo when it was created, the company decided that it was too significant for volvo to keep it to themselves … like, they’re all about saving lives and the three-point seatbelt promised to do that very efficiently 😏

as such, volvo opened up their patent and pretty much every car manufacturer adopted the tech 😎 it instantly started to save lives! ♥️

in fact, the three-point seatbelt is said to reduce your chance of injury or death in a crash by 50%! 😱

you’ve gotta love volvo for this massively epic move 🙌🏻 like, they could have easily kept it to themselves or charged ££££££ for it … but no, they just made it fair game for everyone 😁

in doing so, they’ve saved (and are still saving) countless lives 😊 hats off to you volvo, you’re really pretty cool 😎

end! 😜 #tdil
