today i learned – fri 13th apr 2018

dude, it’s friday 13th … not ideal πŸ˜… i hope that y’all have had/have a day that isn’t filled with bad luck!

on that note … here are some babies having a really bad time πŸ™ˆ

#tdil that ‘baby cages’ used to be an actual thing that people used for good parenting πŸ˜…

now, the image in your head is probably of a little cage that you place your baby in … you’re kinda right … but it’s worse than that πŸ™ˆ these cages were hung out of the window 😳

they came around in the 19th century and they were accepted as a good thing for your baby πŸ‘ΆπŸ» due to a thing called ‘airing’ that was popular amongst mothers of the time.

now, you may be wondering what that means … well, it’s exactly how it sounds πŸ˜† people thought that leaving your baby out in the cold air was good for it’s health and prevented colds πŸ€’

so yeah, some bright spark came up with the baby cage – dress your baby in a bonnet and light coat and then place them in the cage which hangs a few feet out from the window 😢

like, i have no words! how could anyone think it was a good idea?! … that said, they also thought that playing with an infant would make them nervous and irritable πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

thank god for us now knowing lots about parenting πŸ˜‚
