today i learned – mon 9th apr 2018

i’ll be honest, i learned this fact first thing this morning and i was half asleep 😴

even so, facts about airplane seats seems like a weird thing to wake up to 😂

#tdil the reason why most airlines specify that the seats in their aircraft are blue 💺

honestly, this is never something i’ve ever really thought about … and my first thought was just that it meant they looked like the sky 🤷🏻‍♂️

appaz i was incorrect! there’s actually a two pronged reason for the blueness 😏

the first reason is simply that blue seats are pretty good at hiding all the dodgy stains that might occur during flight – pretend plane food, missed barf bag opportunities … you know the stuff 🙈

so yeah, reason number one is pretty much just for practicality 🤷🏻‍♂️ who can really blame the airlines for trying to keep their planes looking at least a little tidy? 👍🏻

reason number two is a little bit more psychological 😏 and comes down to how we subconsciously perceive colour.

you see, our brains see blue and then start to create calming chemicals 😎 these chemicals create a feeling of wellbeing and help to reduce plane rage ✈️ (which is a thing apparently 😳)

if you look around … blue is just a colour that we associate with calm things – think clear skies and calm seas ☀️

and there you go, another fun fact done! you’ll remember this one when you’re getting on a plane to fly away on holiday … and you’ll be able to subsequently tell everyone on the plane the reason for the blue seats 😉

i swear, you’ll be the coolest person on the plane 😎

right, peace yo ✌🏻 #tdil

this was a fun one 😁 it made me think of holidays 😱 about to board a plane, feel like learning some things at 30,000ft? just go ->here<- … (you’ll probs want an app to cache stuff for when you’re offline 😅)

(license time! the header is ->here<-, picture one is ->here<-, picture two is ->here<- and picture three ->here<-)
