today i learned – sun 25th mar 2018

as a petrolhead, today’s fact both scares and confuses me πŸ™ˆ

to be honest, i think this crazy invention could scare anyone πŸ˜…

#tdil someone once invented a special combined accelerator and brake pedal 😳

yep, you did read that correctly, a swedish inventor named sven gustafsson once created a pedal for your car that operated both brake and accelerator πŸš— … why did he create it? πŸ€” to help save lives! πŸ™ŒπŸ»

you see, moving your foot from accelerator to brake takes 0.2 seconds … which might sound like nothing, but at 56mph it adds five metres to your stopping distance 😳. this new pedal would remove that whole issue 😏

it looks as below and works as an almost ‘two stage’ thing. to accelerate, you simply tilt your ankle (as you would normally) but to brake you push the whole pedal in by moving your leg as a whole … like when you press the clutch in.

when you brake, the accelerator is disengaged, meaning that you don’t do both together πŸ‘πŸ» not ideal for those that love a proper drive but good for the masses 😏

it’s a pretty simple invention to be honest … and it does make a bit of sense (kinda … a little). regardless of what you may think of it, the swedish national road administration did extensive testing in 2002 and actually approved it for use!

now, as it’s 2018 and we don’t have this pedal in any production cars (at all), i’m going to take a guess that it never caught on πŸ˜‚ i’ll be honest, i’m so very happy that it didn’t!

anyway, that’s us done today 😁 think i’m going to go celebrate proper pedals with some drifting πŸ‘πŸ»

peace πŸ€™πŸ» #tdil

this one was a little weird, but who doesn’t love a crazy invention?! πŸ‘©πŸ»β€πŸ”¬ fancy learning more random stuff? take a gander over ->here<-
