today i learned – mon 18th mar 2018

today, i watched the recent top gear episode that was all about japan 🇯🇵

as i’m feeling particularly japanese, i thought today’s fact should be about japan 😁

#tdil that there is a meal in japan called ‘wanko soba’ (lol) that you have to eat loads of! 🍜

right, i’m probably going to use the name of the dish ‘wanko soba’ quite a lot in this post 🙈 so let’s take a minute to just lol at the name like little school children 😂 … we good? got it out of your system? 🙃

onwards! so, eating wanko soba is actually a bit of a good challenge that sees peeps eating loads and loads of bowls of noodles 👍🏻

it’s a speciality meal in the ‘iwate prefecture’ that is quite literally just a mouthful of super tasty noodles in a bowl 😏 not much of a challenge so far 🤷🏻‍♂️

well, here’s the hard bit – when you finish your bowl of noodles, another is instantly placed in front of you … again and again and again and again 🙈

the idea is to eat as many as you can as quickly as you can … like, the server will literally stand next to you and shout “jan jan”, which means “more, more!” 😳

apparently, the origins of this eating challenge can be traced back hundreds of years to a dude that threw a party but didn’t have enough food for everyone #awks 😅. in order to feed everyone equally, he split the noodles in small bowls 🍜

anyway, feel like you can set records in this challenge? well, you’ll have to beat around 559 bowls 😏 best make your way over to the iwate prefecture … appaz the best restaurant for it is ‘azumaya’ in the city of morioka ✈️

this has ended up longer than planned 😂 #iliketowaffle 🥞 as such, let’s end it there! 😁

peace out yo ✌🏻 #tdil
