for some reason, i was feeling another animal fact today 🤷🏻♂️
luckily, i stumbled across this fun fact about giant penguins … can’t go wrong with that! 🐧
#tdil there used to be a species of penguin that was as taller than most fully grown adults 😳
pretty much every species of penguin that i can think of is super adorable … i’m not overly sure that this one would be the same 🙈
it chilled out in antarctica some 37 million years ago and stood at a mighty 6 foot 8 inches 😏 basically, it was mad tall like a basketball player 🏀
fittingly, it has been named the ‘colossus penguin’ (makes sense) by scientists 👍🏻
despite the fact that they didn’t find all of the ancient penguin’s bones … scientists were able to figure out how tall the penguin would have been by scaling up the bones of normal sized modern day penguins 🙌🏻
once again looking at modern day penguins, scientists reckon that this huge penguin would have been able to hold its breath for a mental 40 minutes! this is due to its larger body size … that’s how it works with modern penguins – the bigger they are, the more air they can hold 😏
can you imagine swimming through the ancient seas and running into a mad 6ft penguin 😂 it would have been absolutely nuts!
that said, i still can’t decide whether it would have remained cute or not 🤔 can something so big still be cute? these are the questions that keep me up at night!
anyway, i’m going to leave you with that and go watch adventuretime 😜
byeeee 😅 #tdil
_______
i really want to see a 6ft penguin in real life 😱 sadly, we never will 🤷🏻♂️ oh well, i guess you could just go read more fun facts ->here<- instead
