today i learned – fri 2nd feb 2018

okay people, we’re getting hella serious today 😏

like, we’re discussing a literal global crisis that could genuinely bring the world to its knees 😳

#tdil that, tragically, the price of hummus is set to start rising very soon 😭

lets get straight into this, shall we? the cause of the rising price is a global shortage of chickpeas 😒

why the shortage of chickpeas? well, the chickpea farmers of the world have had a bit of a merh πŸ™„ you see, whilst the demand of hummus is on the up, the harvest of chickpeas hasn’t been ideal lately ☹️

of course, the knock-on effect of the global chickpea shortage is that chickpeas have got more expensive and subsequently the price of hummus is on the up πŸ™ƒ

apparently the average price of hummus is actually up 12% since jan 2017 … meaning that peeps are now paying around 33p more per pot πŸ’° … in most supermarkets, that’s apparently a price of Β£1.47 for a 310g pot.

when you look at it like that, it doesn’t actually seem that much $$ … however, if you’re buying lots and lots of hummus, then it certainly adds up!

keep in mind that the price could continue to rise as the price of chickpeas continues to rise 🀨 here’s hoping that the harvest gets better asap! 🚜

to be honest, today’s fact feels less fact and more public service announcement 😏 totally doing my bit for the community #ivegotyourback πŸ‘Š

end 😜 #tdil
