today i learned – mon 29th jan 2018

yesterday, you may have seen the very sad news that the founder of ikea – ingvar kamprad – passed away 😒

i’ve always loved ikea … mainly for playing “how many pencils can i take home” … so it felt only right to dedicate this post to him!

#tdil the rhyme and reason behind the crazy complex naming system at ikea πŸ™ˆ

have you never wondered why on earth the products of the ikea universe all have their own names? like, why not just give them a tidy little number πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

well, it turns out that mr.kamprad was actually dyslexic and had trouble remembering the item codes 😒

so, instead of numbers, he and his fam (ikea was a family affair in the beginning) devised a system of actual product names instead of numbers πŸ‘πŸ»

you know, there’s a pretty mental system behind the names that are given to the products 😏 … here goes:

beds have norweigian place names, sofas have swedish town names, kitchen tables have finnish points of interest names, chairs are given male first names and bookcases are named after professions πŸ™ˆ

there are others … but we’ll be here for an eternity if we go through them all! πŸ˜‚

i know this is a slightly odd fact to remember someone with … but i thought it was one of those facts you’ll carry with you every time you visit the mystical shop 😁

all that’s left to say is rip dude 😒 you’ll be genuinely missed … thank you for your epic shop filled with free pencils 😍

byeeeee peeps πŸ™ŒπŸ» tdil
