righty then, get yo learning shades on peeps, it’s time for another fact! 🤓
i’ll be totally honest, i literally only chose this one because it’s fabulous 💁🏻♀️
#tdil the official animal of scotland is the unicorn! 🦄
first of all, let’s just address the fact that scotland’s official animal doesn’t actually exist 😅 … it’s because the scots have a very long history of loving the unicorn!
it dates back all the way to the 12th century 😳 originally appearing on the scottish coat of arms.
in celtic mythology, the unicorn 🦄 symbolises a whole range of things … like, literally everything 🙈 here’s the list: innocence, purity, healing powers, life, masculinity and power 🙌🏻
once again saving the day … unicorns were also a big part of the unification of england and scotland 👍🏻 you see, once king james vi came into power, uniting the two countries, he replaced one of the two unicorns on the scottish royal arms with the english lion.
considering the lion and the unicorn 🦄🦁 were always made out to be enemies, this symbolism of both coming together was pretty powerful 😏
if i’m totally honest, when you consider the stereotypical scottish person (bear with me) it seems pretty mad that their official animal is the unicorn?! you’d have thought it would be a bear or something 🙈
on that note, it’s time to go to bed 😴 i really hope that you found it darn interesting 😏
much love 😘 #tdil
i don’t think we’ve had any other unicorn based facts on the blog yet 🤔 pretty fun 🙌🏻 if you feel like learning more goodness, just go ->here<-
