today i learned – sun 22nd oct 2017

you know how hawaiian pizza is totally against nature? ๐Ÿ˜ท well, it turns out that it has a history that doesnโ€™t include hawaii!?

itโ€™s another one of those random things that i found interesting ๐Ÿ˜‚ bear with ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

#tdil that hawaiian pizza actually originated in canada ๐Ÿ˜ณ

yep … you read that right! of all the places in the world, hawaiian pizza comes from canada! in fact, the dude who invented it wasnโ€™t even hawaiian … he was greek!

his name was sam panopoulos and he was a greek gent that grew up in canada (sadly he died earlier this year ๐Ÿ˜ข). other than inventing the hawaiian pizza, apparently his career of making pizzas was pretty standard … i find it pretty sad that heโ€™s not known better! ๐Ÿ˜ญ

anyway, sam invented the pizza in 1962, naming it the โ€˜hawaiian pizzaโ€™ due to the brand of canned pineapple that he used ๐Ÿ. apparently he was the first dude to create a pizza with ham and pineapple and this was a big thing … no one else was making decent pizza, let alone mad pizza that mixed flavours in such a way!

in actual fact, sam was a bit of a maverick … and i rather love that ๐Ÿ˜ for that reason, even if you find hawaiian pizza to be the devil, i think we should all take our hats off in memory of sam panopoulas – the pizza maverick ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿป๐Ÿ‘Œ๐Ÿป

right, on that note, itโ€™s time for me to stop waffling … iโ€™ll leave the debate of whether you should have pineapple on a pizza to you guys ๐Ÿ˜‚ get your opinions down in the comments yo

ta rahhhh ๐Ÿ˜… #tdil
