as you may have seen in various previous posts, i’ve become one of those weird people that runs 🏃🏻♂️
i’ll be honest, i hate every second of it and started solely to justify eating more ben and jerry’s 👍🏻 .. anyway, here’s a fact inspired by running 😷
#tdil the cause of that horrid pain that is called a ‘stitch’ 😓
so yeah, it’s something that we’ve all experienced at some point … that horrible pain in your abdomen that feels like you’re being stabbed 👍🏻 have you never wondered why it happens?
i have … therefore i decided to find out 😂 basically, it all comes down to reduced blood flow to your diaphragm (the muscle that separates the stomach and abdomen from the heart and lungs … it’s also important in breathing 👍🏻 #quiteimportant).
you see, when you exercise, your blood moves away from the diaphragm and into your muscles … where it is needed the most at the time 💪🏻. the lack of blood goodness causes the diaphragm to cramp – let’s face it, no cramp is ever pleasant 😭
apparently you can prevent stitches from happening by drinking water before exercise, warming up correctly and not eating too close to your exercise chills 🙂
what if you are suddenly struck by the dreaded stitch? apparently you can get rid of it by stopping exercise and touching your toes or by putting pressure on the area that hurts 😳 … i haven’t tested these yet … but why would bbc sport lie?
and there you have it! the reason why your body sometimes makes you feel like you’re being stabbed! – it doesn’t happen often, but i think we had an actually useful blog post today!!! 😱
anyway, i need sleep 🙃
laterz 🏃🏻♂️ #tdil
