as you may have seen in various previous posts, iโve become one of those weird people that runs ๐๐ปโโ๏ธ
iโll be honest, i hate every second of it and started solely to justify eating more ben and jerryโs ๐๐ป .. anyway, hereโs a fact inspired by running ๐ท
#tdil the cause of that horrid pain that is called a โstitchโ ๐
so yeah, itโs something that weโve all experienced at some point … that horrible pain in your abdomen that feels like youโre being stabbed ๐๐ป have you never wondered why it happens?
i have … therefore i decided to find out ๐ basically, it all comes down to reduced blood flow to your diaphragm (the muscle that separates the stomach and abdomen from the heart and lungs … itโs also important in breathing ๐๐ป #quiteimportant).
you see, when you exercise, your blood moves away from the diaphragm and into your muscles … where it is needed the most at the time ๐ช๐ป. the lack of blood goodness causes the diaphragm to cramp – letโs face it, no cramp is ever pleasant ๐ญ
apparently you can prevent stitches from happening by drinking water before exercise, warming up correctly and not eating too close to your exercise chills ๐
what if you are suddenly struck by the dreaded stitch? apparently you can get rid of it by stopping exercise and touching your toes or by putting pressure on the area that hurts ๐ณ … i havenโt tested these yet … but why would bbc sport lie?
and there you have it! the reason why your body sometimes makes you feel like youโre being stabbed! – it doesnโt happen often, but i think we had an actually useful blog post today!!! ๐ฑ
anyway, i need sleep ๐
