so, bit of background info about todayโs fact: it came about after a very long journey to buy a car turned into a day at the beach ๐
strange one, hey!? ๐ of all the times i thought iโd randomly end up at the beach, being in devon and not buying the aforementioned car was not one … not gonna lie, it was a totally awesome day ๐ฌ.
#tdil the reason why being in cold water makes you suddenly need to have a wee ๐ฉ
have you ever experienced it? jumping into a cold pool or walking into the sea and instantly feeling nature call? ๐ณ it happened to all three of us when we recently visited the beach and i literally need to know why!
luckily, the internet hasnโt failed me and i now have a sick fact to feed back! turns out that itโs due to something called โcold diuresisโ.
so, what is cold diuresis? well, when you get into cold water, you obvs need to get warm – therefore, your body instantly reacts to do just such a thing. it does this by constricting blood vessels and reducing blood flow to the surface of the skin.
now, reduced blood flow to the skin subsequently means higher blood pressure – this is due to the same amount of blood being pushed around less space within your body. as such, your kidneys try to regulate blood pressure by removing additional fluids from your blood … hence needing to wee! ๐ฌ
another reason is that a full bladder causes additional heat loss … which is far from idea when youโre trying to get warmer ๐
turns out that this one was actually pretty short ๐ regardless, i found it pretty interesting! weโre also all a little cleverer now ๐๐
anyway, rather than waffling about stuff, iโm going to get some sleep ๐๐ป hope you enjoyed beautiful peeps ๐
au revoir ๐๐ป #tdil
