paydayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻. right, now that’s out of the way, lets get on with the thing that i learned today … has absolutely nothing to do with money, so the payday reference was largely useless 😬.
today’s little thing that i learned is about sleep – one of my absolute faves 👍🏻. #tdil that during rem sleep, you’re totally paralysed by part of your brain 😳.
so, rem sleep occurs in cycles of about 90-120 minutes and is characterised by (as the name suggests) the fact that your eyes move rapidly from side to side. it’s during rem sleep that you do most of your dreaming. <– this is just a little bit of background info or “brucie bonus facts”.
anyway, back to the thing that i learned! due to the amount of dreaming that you do during rem sleep, your brain has to paralyse you so that you don’t physically act out all of the things that you’re doing in ya noggin 😂 – this lack of all muscle and skeletal movement is called ‘atonia’.
that’s actually pretty scary, especially when you consider that sometimes (very rarely … i think) you can become conscious whilst your body is still in a state of atonia 😳 this is known as ‘aware sleep paralysis’. like genuinely, i can think of nothing worse 😭
on that fantastically happy note, we have reached the end of today’s little random fact that i went and learned 😂 i have a feeling that my rem sleep could be filled with thoughts of scary paralysis now tonight 😒
