like many people, i’m a bit of an apple snob 😳. as such, i own a whole host of products that wear that iconic little logo of an apple with a bite taken out of it.
if, like me, you have an iphone/ipad/mac/macbook/etc, have you ever looked at the logo and wondered what that little symbol means? well never fear, #tdil exactly what it means 😏.
before i unveil exactly what it means, however, it’s probably worth mentioning that there are a couple of rather brilliant theories!
the first is one that concerns alan turing – the man who laid the foundations for the modern computer and unlocked german war codes before eventually biting an apple that he had laced with cyanide due to being unrecognised for his work, jailed for indecency and forced to have oestrogen injections to ‘cure’ his homosexuality.
apple being the groundbreaking technology company that they are, the theory goes that the two founders picked an apple with a bite out of it as a tribute to turing and his contribution to their field … incorrect i’m afraid ❌
well, if that isn’t it, then what about the adam and eve theory? the theory that the apple with a bite missing symbolises the apple that adam and eve bit to discover knowledge?
also incorrect ❌ whilst the rumour that an adam and eve-esque apple signifies how apple products provide us with knowledge actually makes quite a lot of sense … it isn’t the intended meaning.
there’s also a theory that the apple is to do with the one that landed on sir isaac newton’s noggin … nope, incorrect, denied ❌
so, with all these rumours and apple’s generally philosophical nature, whatever could that iconic logo mean?! well, in 2009, creativebits decided it was time to put the rumours to bed and find out!
in an interview with the logo’s designer – rob janoff (strangely, apple didn’t think to add his last name to autocorrect even after he made them a sick logo #rude) – creativebits threw the rumours at the man in the know and asked “wtf does it mean yo?”
mr.janoff kindly answered the question 😬 …
ready for this? …
basically, he doesn’t really remember why he decided to use the outline of an apple 🤓 LOL! rob does remember why he added the bite in though 👍🏻 … the bite is there to help with scale – so that you don’t accidentally think the logo is a cherry ✔️
what an actual anti-climax!? lmao 🤷🏻♂️ like, what?! apple are this super cool, super secretive and super groundbreaking (well, they used to be) company, so you’d have thought their logo might be something really thought out and meaningful. nah, just picked an apple because why not 😂.
and there you have it 😂 the biggest anti-climax since the ending of war of the worlds. as usual, this is the shortened version of events that helps my brain to remember the facts – if you’d like to read a more in depth version, you can read my source –>here<–
i actually feel bad about how anti-climactic this post is … but that’s the truth i’m afraid 🙈 that’s literally all she wrote 😅. i’m going back to my wine now 👍🏻
that’s all folks 🐰 #tdil
(as you can imagine, that image isn’t mine 😳 it’s a wallpaper from –>here<– that i stole from google … follow the link and download something 👍🏻. also, go buy an iphone or something, if anyone is going to sue me whilst i have this blog, it’ll be apple fo’sho).
