today i learned – sat 11th mar 2017

today, we’re talking about a show that i’ve been binge watching fairly regularly for years πŸ‘πŸ» that fantastic show about everyone’s favourite physicists – the big bang theory.

ready? #tdil that all of the scary physics that you see drawn on whiteboards etc throughout each episode, is actually legit correct physics stuff πŸ€“.Β

in fact, there’s an actual onset science consultant! his name is david saltzberg and he’s a professor from ucla (amusingly, when i typed ucla into my phone it tried to change it to sucks πŸ˜‚ … someone at apple doesn’t like ucla). saltzberg studies “high-energy particle physics and high-energy neutrino astronomy, using radio-detection techniques” 😳 basically…he’s totes clever.

anyway, saltzberg ensures that all of the whiteboards have real life science on them πŸ™‚ he also fills in blanks in the script, where the writers didn’t know about the sciencey stuff that they wanted to include.

saltzberg actually got involved with the show way before they needed fancy equations on whiteboards – they hadn’t even created sets. saltzberg’s original time with the show’s creators was showing them what real life student apartments were like, so that the creators could start making stunning sets (sets that were later scraped πŸ™).

tbh, i would go into much more depth about this but i feel that i’ve expressed the crux of what i’ve learned already! as such, i’m going to leave you with this awesome link to an interview with saltzberg that explains everything 😬 if you want more, click –>here<–.

little pub fact for you there πŸ™‚ i hope you enjoy using it every time you see the big bang theory on the tellybox πŸ‘πŸ». another random fact (that i couldn’t use as a #tdil because i already knew it) is that amy (played by mayim bialik) is a real life scientist πŸ€“πŸ€“ who studied neuroscience…just like her character in the show.

anyhew, i’m going to binge on some more big bang before inevitably falling asleep halfway through an episode πŸ‘ŒπŸ».

catch ya on the flip side πŸ‘Š #tdil

(that image is from a desktop wallpaper website…so i’m pretty sure i’m allowed to use it? 😳 … just in case, it’s from –>here<– go get yourself something nice)

  1. Big band theory is the most favourite show of mine!! i love how ‘nerds’ have been portrayed , like normal people, and the scientific life and its joys. Plus, you learn too
